This Week At School – November 30 to Dec 4

Dear Parents,
My apologies in the delay in sending out this email. I was unable to connect to my email this weekend.
This week we accomplished a lot. Most of us have mastered long division and many of us have a fairly good understanding of the concept. We are quite enjoying the Movie Madness project, where we get to put our understanding of long division to use while learning about costs and budgets.
We have been working on our beatitudes study in Religion as well learning more about advent. The goal is to have the students thinking about what the lessons mean to them, regardless of where they are on their own faith journey.
In Science we have been working on the phases of matter, how to go between them and what makes up matter. Next week we will be moving on to mixtures.
In Language Arts we are looking at fluency. By using picture books and familiar stories, we are looking at how we can use different strategies to increase our fluency and expression when we are reading. We are also working on Character creation. We are creating character webs and looking for details that help us show who the character is rather then just tell the reader that our character is nice or silly, for example.
Important events coming up:
December 7-11
– Wednesday (9): swimming
– Friday (11): White Elephant Sale. Please bring in donations by Thursday. Don’t forget your money. Items will be priced between 50 cents and 2 dollars. We are also looking for volunteers to help run the sale. Please email and let me know if you are able to help out.
