Happy New Year and welcome back!
In Math, we started our new unit on fractions and decimals. The students have went on a scavenger hunt around the school to find examples of fractions (or decimals). Our focus will be on fractions for the time being before we move on to decimals. A few students have not yet handed in their movie madness projects. I will be writing notes in agendas and emailing if this applies to your child.
In Social, we have wrapped up our research on the regions. A few students may be bringing home a few final tasks to complete. We will complete our final self assessment on Monday and begin ranking the regions based on liveability
In Science, we are finishing up our study on identifying and separating mixtures. We will look at changes later this week.
In Language Arts, we are working on comprehension strategies in our reading. We are also going to begin our next read aloud of The One and Only Ivan. In writing, we continue to work on story elements, leading to writing our own story. We will take this slow and in pieces to focus on writing elements and generating our ideas.
In Religion, we will wrap up our Beatitudes study and start looking at the sacraments. The students will be responsible for leading the reflection each Friday now.
We have started tracking our physical activity as we are participating in the Edmonton Oilers Energizer contest. Students have agreed to participate in 60 minutes of physical activity each day – including recess, phys ed, walking to school, etc. Please track any non-school related activities in the agenda to add to our log books.
Also as a side note, nothing but praise from the Subs this week while I was away due to illness. I am quite impressed. What a great way to show we are ready for the new year!
Have a great week everyone!
